How does a run settle everything?
Now I know why weight-bearing exercise is good for you. It settles everything into it’s place. I can’t believe how going for a run puts all my thoughts in their proper category. I can almost hear the coins falling into their slots. Clear. Concise. Ordered. How does that happen?!
How would Jesus drive?
Just move. Be still. Just move. Be still. I feel like I’m stuck in city traffic. Life is not very fuel efficient these days. I began this thought yesterday when I saw a late model 4-door idling at the light after our lane of traffic was well on its way. His license plate read “Gewgle.” […]
If it’s so good for us, why don’t we do it?
If exercise is so good for us, why don’t we do it? A parent asked me this as we walked off the training field on Saturday, the kids all smiles having just spent two hours running and stopping, sweating and breathing hard. Playing, in other words. (Don’t tell them it’s exercise.) The parent was a […]
Go ahead, mix the Play-Doh
Doesn’t Play-Doh feel great?! I had forgotten until I got out some containers for my Wednesday “Pal’s.” They are 4th graders at a local elementary school that have been “assigned” to me as part of a mentoring program. I am pretty sure they were assigned to mentor me rather than the other way around, but anyway… We […]
A thing at rest tends to remain at rest
It’s hard to wake up. Sleeping to waking is a tough process. Just ask my kid who I wrenched out of bed this morning to make the high school bus. It’s so much easier to stay in bed. Something seems almost to hold us there. This is a problem, though, for my day. My obligations. […]
One foot in front of the other on the well-worn path
Nothing speeds you up like a narrow path. That’s what I decided yesterday when I was moping about taking more time than was necessary and never getting anything done and procrastinating and, well, feeling generally sorry for myself. It was a nice day, so I headed out the door for a run. Another delaying tactic, for sure. […]
“Play First, Eat Later” is a no-brainer to 4th graders
I played hooky on Wednesday. Usually I spend a half hour at lunch time with a couple of adorable girls at a local elementary school. They’re my buddies, matched up with me as a mentor, because they have been identified as “needing…extra support.” I am not sure of their situations. I expect they are on free or […]
Who has time for details?
I’m not a detail person. I would rather do the big stuff. Make the big difference. Start the big program. Be the front man. And let someone else take care of the details. Because that’s what feels good. When I can look at what I’ve accomplished and celebrate a job well done. I can hold […]
Step by step instructions: God’s GPS for all creation
Wouldn’t it be great if I could punch God into my GPS? Turn right here. In 6 tenths of a mile, exit right on Route 28. Keep left on the ramp Left on Home Rd. You have arrived. I especially like that last part. Of course I am ever doubting my nav system. I mean, […]
Just on time
It’s a funny thing about the pace of life these days. It hurries me. I’ve got 24 hours just like the next girl, so why is it that I always seem to be running late? It was Sunday and I was late for church again. Brushing my teeth and grabbing the earrings that were easiest […]
